Cambridge-based Viridian Solar has added two new modules to its Clearline fusion range of roof integrated solar.

The 335Wp and 340Wp modules mark a shift away from a 156mm cell size for the company. It has opted for mono-crystalline PERC G1 cells at 158.75mm for its new modules, following on from a wider shift in the solar sector, with many manufacturers re-tolling factories to produce larger cell sizes.

The power output of the new G1 modules per m2 ranks among the highest available said Jamie Berryman, CSO at Viridian Solar, making them “the most cost-effective way to deliver many specifications”.

“We anticipate that new building regulations together with the electrification of heating and transport will mean our homes need more and more solar fitted. The PV16-G1 gives solar installers and housing developers the right tools to meet the challenges ahead. “

New G1 roofing kits will be available alongside the new G1 modules, as the overall dimensions of the new panels have a knock on effect. Viridian has changed the colour of the new roofing kits as well, making them anthracite grey to better match the panels, improving aesthetics of installations.

The half-cut cells in Viridian’s G1 modules have a number of technical benefits added KT Tan, CTO at Viridian Solar.

“The format reduces resistance losses in cell connections resulting in a greater overall panel efficiency. Also, because the cells are in two separate strings within each panel, shading that cuts across the short length of the panel will reduce output by less. We also anticipate improved performance under spot shading and greater resistance to mechanical stress.”

The news follows on from a busy 2020 for the company, announcing a host of new partnerships including with Beech DevelopmentsNewland HomesBloor HomesStewart Milne Homes and Bellway.

The new modules will be available to customers in mainland Europe from May, and UK customers from June 2021.
