Solar Together Leicestershire has launched, with the group-buying scheme designed to help those looking to invest in solar and battery storage systems for a reduced rate.

Residents can register for the scheme, and are then entered into an auction where solar PV suppliers compete by offering the lowest rate for solar panel installation. The more people who register for the scheme, the lower the price can reach.

Solar Together alongside group-buying scheme company iChoosr then provides those who signed up with a free, no-obligation offer from the successful energy supplier, while a personal recommendation is emailed out with information on the winning solar panel installer, the proposed system, costs and savings.

The Solar Together scheme has been running for four years, with Surrey County Council joining last year. Richmond Council also joined that year, working with the Mayor of London, who in 2018 launched the second phase of the London-specific branch, expanding the scheme by a further eight boroughs from the initial four.

“We can all play our part in climate change, and we want to help residents reduce their own carbon emissions. I’m pleased the Council is taking part in this scheme to support residents in buying solar panels which could also help them save money on their electricity bills over time,” said councillor Roy Rollings, lead member for transformation with responsibility for Charnwood Borough Council’s campaign to become carbon neutral by 2030.

Registration for the scheme closes on Tuesday 14 June with the selection revealed from 4 July onwards.
