The Solar Skills London project, which provides funding for training in solar PV, energy storage and low carbon technologies, has extended the deadline for applications.
Launched by Solar Energy UK and the Mayor of London, the project is offering eligible companies up to £1,000 of funding, which will be valid to cover the cost, in whole or in part, of training courses relating to the solar and storage industry.
The deadline to apply for the funding has been extended to 14 January, with the project aiming to help develop the solar supply chain in London by supporting the creation of new jobs and a high-quality pipeline of talent for the capital’s solar businesses.
First announced last year, Solar Skills London also includes goals such as developing a solar PV learner curriculum, establishing introductory workshops for trainees, creating a placement programme with London’s solar businesses and constructing a solar training and careers hub.
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has been a vocal supporter of solar, having called for a national solar policy in 2018 following the launch of the second phase of the Solar Together London group buying scheme.
It was announced last month that solar would be among the eligible technologies for the Mayor of London’s Warmer Home scheme, which is aiming to improve the energy efficiency of low income households in London through grants for the rollout of new technologies.
