A £9.2 million development in Perth, Scotland has seen solar PV rolled out across 70 new homes.

This is the largest development of new council homes since Perth & Kinross Council restarted its house building programme in 2021. The homes were delivered in partnership with Barratt Homes and helped by funding from the Scottish government.

The addition of solar on the one and two-bed flats and two and three bed council houses will drive down tenants’ household bills and reduce the carbon footprint of the development, which was designed to be high-quality yet affordable.

“This is the council’s largest new-build project since we began our construction programme nine years ago, and I am absolutely delighted to see it completed,” said the council’s housing and communities convener, Bob Brawn.

Other councils to have announced rooftop solar rooftops in recent months include Salford City Council, which appointed NPS Solar to install 1,542 solar panels on 11 council buildings in July, and Essex County Council, with Solarwatt supplying complete PV systems for 15 primary school sites in the area.

Meanwhile, Perth is home to what was lauded as one of the UK’s largest combined solar and energy storage carports when it was opened at Aviva’s Perth Office in 2020. The installation included 3,283 solar PV panels alongside a 1.8MWh Tesla Powerpack energy storage system.
