Job search website Lensa has published data revealing that working as a solar consultant is the second most in demand job around the world.
Lensa’s internal data from job searches across the globe calculates the percentage increase in job searches for different jobs between 2021 and 2022.
The most searched for job is as a software quality assurance analyst, with solar consultant coming in at number 2. Solar consultants provide sales and support for solar energy systems, and the job saw a 106% increase in searches from 2021 to 2022.
Trade association Solar Energy UK have recently said that by the 2030s, 60,000 people will be employed within the solar sector, up from the 7,000 recorded in 2020.
In January, hiring platform Indeed said there had been a 315% increase in demand for solar installers, while the profession came out top of the site’s rankings of the 20 best jobs in the UK for 2023.
Indeed currently lists over 400 jobs for solar consultants in the UK. However, a number of surveys have shown that there are skills shortages in the renewable energy sector in the UK, with a 2020 survey by Solar Energy UK finding that 48% of those trading in solar and storage lacked access to skilled employees.
