Sustainable infrastructure investor, NTR, has announced the deployment of two battery energy storage systems in Co. Wexford, Ireland.
The 9MW BESS situated in Gorey entered the Delivering a Secure, Sustainable Electricity System (DS3) service for Ireland’s transmission system operator (TSO), EirGrid, in April 2023; following this, the 16MW BESS in Avonbeg is due to enter the DS3 market this April.
Both sites have also achieved capacity market contracts.
The BESS systems respond in 150 milliseconds to balance the grid by discharging electricity, according to the company.
These balancing mechanisms are hoped to increase the volume of renewable energy on the Irish grid.
