Intelligent Land Investments Group (ILI) has secured planning consent for a 50MW energy storage project at Cathkin, Scotland.
Alongside its joint venture partners, Abbey Group and Yoo Energy, ILI Group now has permission to begin development of the 50MW project after it was unanimously approved at the South Lanarkshire Council planning committee on 16 August.
“We are delighted to be able to announce the consent of this project in East Kilbride and would like to thank our JV partners The Abbey Group and Yoo Energy,” said Mark Wilson, CEO of ILI Group.
“The Cathkin project takes us to our first 1GW of energy storage projects consented across 11 battery storage projects and our ‘Red John’ Pumped Storage Hydro project at Loch Ness. We are now ¼ of the way to our target of 4GW.
“A massive increase in energy storage is a crucial catalyst for the further growth of renewable energy and reducing reliance on fossil fuels, projects like Cathkin will help the UK realise its net zero aspirations.”
ILI Group is also responsible for the development of a 1.5GW pumped storage hydro project at Loch Awe. The Balliemeanoch project based at Dalmally in Argyll and Bute will be able to supply 1.5GW of power for up to 30 hours. It is the third and largest of ILI’s pumped storage hydro projects, with the other two being Red John at Loch Ness and Corrievarkie at Loch Ericht.
This will contribute to a growing list of consented energy storage projects by the Scottish energy developer with the firm hitting 1GW in the pipeline.
